FAQs
1. How soon can we walk on the floors after
they are finished?
Depending on the weather, you can generally walk
on floors that have been coated with urethane about 8 hours after
the application on a newly installed floor, or overnight for a buff
and coating.
2. When can we move back furniture?
You can move back any furniture the next day.
However, it is recommended that you wait at least two days for the
finish to cure. Due to the floors vulnerability, it is also recommended
that you walk on the floor in stocking feet only.
3. Can I put down an area rug?
For new floors or newly refinished floors, it
is generally recommended that you wait at least 30 days before laying
down any type of carpet or area rugs.
4. Do we need to leave the home when floors
are refinished?
The floors are generally coated during the early
part of the day, and the plastic that is hung to prevent dust from
getting out of the room, also acts as a vapor barrier. Make sure
windows are open at night to allow for fresh air, however, the fumes
are not toxic.
5. What about dust? Do I need to have my
home cleaned after having hardwood installed?
No. Any dust from the installation procedure is
contained within the plastic barrier that is put up prior to the
installation. Our sander's and buffer's now include dust containment
which will eliminate 90% of the dust they create during each procedure.
Any dust left on the baseboards or window sills is vacuumed up prior
to coating the floors.
6. What about maintenance for my new floors?
Have your hardwood floors buffed and coated every
5-10 years. NEVER use any sort of waxing product on or around your
flooring. The wax causes gumming up of floor sanders, resulting
in the homeowner having to tear out the existing hardwood flooring
and re-installing new hardwood.
7. Where do I buy cleaning and maintenence
products for my new hardwoods?
Your hardwoods shouldn't need more than a dry
mop for daily or weekly cleaning. For deeper cleaning we recommend
a generic brand of glass cleaner with NO ammonia in it mixed in
a 20 parts glass cleaner 80 part water mixture. This would only
be for a deep cleaning. A dry mop should be fine for daily or weekly
maintenance.
